Going it alone
A large part of my job is showing my clients the value in working with a realtor, especially with all of the negative portrayals of my profession you see on TV. For sale by owners and those who try to acquire to buy real estate on their own have a large belief that it is an easy process and let me tell you, it isn’t. I recently purchased my own property for myself and acted on my own behalf as the buying agent. Let me tell you, what a roller coaster of emotion and anxiety it was. Dealing directly for myself, as a professional who does this on a very regular basis, was tough. I became largely emotionally invested and began to act with a twisted sense of security and made some decisions that were based on my feelings rather than my intuition. Everything worked out for me in the long run, however this experience gave me a great peek inside a window showing what it is that I offer as a professional Realtor. Market knowledge, negotiation savvy and intelligent decisions are just a part of the picture, the 3rd party, level headed and emotionally uninvested approach is something that I know from my recent experience is alone worth its weight in gold.
